High Protein Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie.
This smoothie got the thumbs up (errr... 'fumbs' up if you are 6 and your name is Gav). Rich, smooth and creamy. Inspired by a great little place we discovered on our last family vacation in Florida. If you are ever in Atlantic Beach Florida {go!} you must visit M-Shack. My kids tell me they have the best shakes. Zoe says this smoothie tastes just like the milkshake she had at the M-Shack. Which is pretty cool considering my version includes hemp protein and is without dairy.
Now, I've tried hemp protein before and I must say I was not impressed. Actually, the brand I tried (and I won't mention any names) was really just gross. Lesson learned, I've avoided hemp based protein powders ever since.
Buuut... that all changed last month when North Coast Naturals sent me some to try. This is not the hemp protein that I remember. This hemp protein tastes good. Check out my last post if you want more information about North Coast Naturals. North Coast Naturals is a Canadian based Company. Their products are Organic and No-GMO. The hemp protein also happens to be raw. And it tastes awesome!
I'm still trying to decide if I like the chocolate or the berry flavour best.
This is a sweetened protein powder which makes it really convenient for quick snacks. Sometimes I measure out a cup of almond or coconut milk in a small mason jar and stash some protein in another container and take that to work with me for a mid-morning snack. Especially mornings where there was a workout. The protein mixes easily with the milk - just close the lid and give it a really good shake.
For this Chocolate Peanut Butter smoothie I also added some L-Glutamine, also from North Coast Naturals. I love this product. It's tasteless and blends completely in any smoothie. No weird textures. L-Glutamine is suppose to be great after long / hard workouts as it helps repair tired muscles and tissues. And since I'm training for a half marathon in 2 months - yikes! - I have tired and sore muscles.

When I was marathon training, I liked making a watermelon/coconut water smoothie after a hot run. Sometimes, though, a chocolate soy milk was the only thing that would do the trick. This looks like it would fill the chocolate soy milk void nicely!

This recipe sounds nice. However, when I went to the North Coast Naturals website and tried to look at the ingredients and nutrition information, it was totally unreadable (verrry small print that did not respond well to enlarging). I was sorry to find that because I am interested in the hemp protein powder.
Trish @infinebalance says
Hi Susan. Happy to hear you are interested in the hemp protein powder. I can't help you with problems with North Coast Natural's website. However, I checked it myself and I was able to see the nutrition information. You may be experiencing a browser compatibility issue, but if you haven't already tried this -- you can click on the actual Nutrition info chart that shows on the website, it will enlarge for easier reading. Hope that helps!

Hi Susan!
I work at NCN and if you'd like to shoot me an email at [email protected] I can help answer your questions about the nutritional information. I just checked the site and the information enlarged okay for me, I checked on both a PC and MAC and it seems okay. I was able to read it okay so I'm not sure why it isn't enlarging for you but I can email you the information if you like no problem!
Cheers,
Deryn @ North Coast Naturals

I usually arrange my workouts so they fall before a mealtime, so really my favourite post-workout treat is a big meal that helps replenish all the energy I just burned off 🙂
Trish @infinebalance says
I agree. I love the feeling of sitting down for a big breakfast after a long and hard run.
