Benefit from all the health-promoting properties of green tea in this sweet vegan iced matcha green tea latte. Just like Starbucks but half the price. Matcha green tea is full of antioxidants. Made with organic soy milk, this treat is vegan and high in protein too. This is a perfect afternoon pick me up.

Green tea is something I am actively trying to get more of in my daily routine. I like tea, but tea is something I usually reach for at night. And of course, at night, I like to avoid caffeine, so green tea is off the table at night.

And during the day, sometimes I just don't feel like a warm cup of tea.

Then I discovered this cool, creamy treat and I am hooked. An iced matcha latte is the perfect mid-day snack. If you have ever ordered an iced matcha latte at Starbucks you know exactly the yummy coolness that is this vanilla matcha latte.

    Picking Matcha Green Tea

Matcha green tea is made from the highest quality green tea and ground into a powder. Matcha is so good for you because it has 100x more antioxidant power than regular green tea. It is powerful stuff.

Because the best leaves are used to make matcha, it can be expensive. Ceremonial grade matcha is the most expensive and has the strongest flavour.

Culinary grade matcha is a bit less in price (still more than you might pay for a box of green tea at the grocery store though) and often has a milder flavour.

Both are good for you and full of antioxidants. When buying matcha, look for a product that is certified organic, non-GMO, and from Japan.

How to make an iced matcha latte

Matcha green tea: You will need 2 teaspoon of matcha green tea powder to make this latte.

Blender: A blender makes quick work of dissolving the matcha into the milk of your choice.

Ice: for serving. A must, this has to be ice cold.

Milk: To keep this treat vegan, I use almond or soy milk. Soy milk has a nice dose of protein that you will not get in any other plant-based milk. Try to choose organic non-GMO soy milk if possible. Also, choose an unsweetened variety so that you can control the amount of sugar.

Vanilla & sweetener: I like a dash of vanilla extract for a vanilla latte and maple syrup is my sweetener of choice.
