this Cauliflower Gratin is really comforting and rich and low carb. Perhaps Paleo, but not vegan unless you skip the parm

Straight Up Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins

Whole Wheat and Blueberry Waffles
There is something special about waffles. Effort and planning is involved. Or at least, it appears that way. In reality, as long as you have a waffle maker, they are about as much hassle as pancakes.
Mediterranean Broccoli and Barley Salad

Pumpkin Pooch Snacks
... I have a pooch that happens to L.O.V.E. pumpkin. Love! I tell you. I got busy and made Mr. H some snacks.
Coriander Spiced Lentil Soup
Soup is what I do when I need a reset foodwise. It feels like, no.... I should say we have been eating non-stop for the last two weeks. Holiday meals, parties, grabbing food at the mall while we finish our shopping. In truth I haven't spent much time in the kitchen just cooking. I've finished a few desserts. Made an app or two to take to a party. I have made many cups of coffee. But just cooking to eat food? making something nourishing? not so much. We spent 3 days in hockey arenas.. yes that is arenas . I have never consumed nor allowed to be consumed so many french fries.
Winter Vegetable Soup
A rich and comforting soup full of sweet winter vegetables. Good for the freezer too -- and sometime in January when you have absolutely no time for dinner you will thank me.
Love Crunch Gingerbread Crunch Bark
Personally, I think this was rather brilliant of me. Something about the spicy gingerbread pieces with bitter sweet dark chocolate. It's amazing and dead simple. So easy and so good in fact, I have decided to share this treat with just about everyone this holiday... I made some for the family, then a batch for the office potluck, and then decided the kids teachers are getting some too.... and there is that holiday party on the 23rd...
Over-stuffed Chocolate Fudge Cookies
I wanted these cookies to have lots going on. So they are stuffed with the goods... stuffed.
Roasted Sweet Onion Dip
... just throw them in the oven for a while and walk away. Caramelized onions require babysitting a pan on the stove top. Oven roasted well, not so much. In fact, they actually give you time. Time to read a book. clean up the hall closet or do a load of laundry kind of time.
Creamy Savoy Cabbage Slaw
The whole cabbage family is under rated in my opinion. Great source of vitamins and antioxidants during the winter months too. Embrace the cruciferous!
Cranberry Ginger Squares
A soft buttery cookie, laced with orange zest, filled with dried cranberries, cherries and a little bit of candied ginger. I have a thing for candied ginger. I find its heat incredibly addictive.

Crockpot Black Bean and Sweet Potato Tacos
These Crockpot Vegetarian Tacos can help get you through the busiest of weeks. Any crock pot recipe for taco filling, actually. I have several versions and during the winter months I make them on a regular basis - they are easy to put together and are fairly forgiving about being left unattended for a long while. The hardest part about this particular recipe is peeling and chopping the sweet potato.
Black Bean and Corn Salsa with Feta
Hey. I'm not above tortilla chips if it means my kids are eating black beans and vegetables without complaining.
The beans provide protein and the feta gives just enough tang to make it interesting.
The Best Brownie Recipe
When I let the dog outside first thing this morning I could feel it. The crisp of fall in the air. By 10am the day was warm and humid - still summer - just a moment to remind me of fall... and then I find myself in the kitchen. Funny how my kitchen habits are...
Creamy Feta Dip
...here a little something for that last long weekend of the summer. Maybe that last backyard BBQ. Share this with friends. This dip works with so many different "dip-ables" -- fresh veggies, toasted pita wedges, breadsticks or cocktail shrimp -- it will keep everyone happy.
Blueberry Walnut Coffee Cake with Basil
This is a light and sweet cake - Blueberry and Basil Coffeecake with Walnuts. Not particularly fancy. Basil adds a little extra spice to each bite but is not overpowering. There is something about coffee cake that I have a hard time resisting. With or without coffee. Though, I can't usually resist coffee.. so decidedly best with coffee, or a rich and spicy tea if you go that way.
Blog Cookoff! Spices and Seasons Cookbook Giveaway!
This is food that the whole family will enjoy. What I really liked about this book is Rinku's focus on sustainability and how a family can work towards a healthier and greener lifestyle with delicious food. And, although not exclusively a vegetarian cookbook, many of the recipes are meat-free and many are also vegan. Perfect for those who are trying to go meat-free once in a while.

Classic Green Mint Chutney
And before you conclude that chutney is only for Indian inspired dishes and curries, I want you to know that I will be making this all summer. Fresh grilled veggies, sweet corn (I can't wait), anything off the BBQ, warm and crispy Naan.. or like here, just tossed on some boiled potatoes.
Gluten-Free Raspberry Crumb Bars
These pretty little pastries are gluten-free and vegan. Sweet and rich cookie base with layers of almonds and coconut.
Sweet Corn and Green Chili Slaw
I didn't know what to call this - a salad, salsa, relish? Did you know slaw is just another word for salad? Slaw felt most appropriate because of the spoon-ability of the dish. So we have slaw.

A rich and creamy spread made from savoury fava beans flavoured with olive oil, lemon and cumin. Using frozen fava beans this app is easy and quick to make. Served with pitas or crispy flat bread.
Eating Green for St. Patrick's Day: Six Green Salads
Okay... I know. Salad is not the first thing you think of when it comes to St. Patrick's Day eats. But after a week's vacation, where I ate far too much of just about everything, salad is the only thing on my mind. I truly enjoy salad. And since we are celebrating green things, and...

Millet and Oat Muffins
I really hate to add to your To-Do list for the weekend, but a batch of these muffins would be a good idea. They stash nicely in the freezer and given that they are fairly low in sugar they make a healthy addition for the kids lunch box. Or better yet, with a piece of fruit and slathered with nut butter they are a quick and compact little breakfast.
Cauliflower Mac & Cheese
So when I want to restore their belief that I am best cook in the world, I often turned to pasta in cheese sauce. I go for the sure thing. Sometimes you just need the kids to say "Mommy this was so good."
Lentil and Sweet Onion Pitas
I'm a decidedly lazy photographer... or more appropriately lazy wanna-be-photographer. I don't like planning ahead. I don't like using props. Really, all I want is to take a picture of my food just before I eat it, fuss with it as little as possible and have it turn out beautiful. Is that too much to ask? I think not.
Blackberry Scones with Walnuts
The trick to tender and flaky scones, even when they are vegan, is to not over mix the dough. Mix the dry ingredients together then add the honey (or your favourite liquid sweetener) and coconut oil. Mix well with your fingers to get a fine crumb. Yes, this is like making pastry.
Blueberry Citrus Loaf {vegan}
This Blueberry Citrus loaf is a new addition to the must.make.all.the.time list. And while, yes there is a bit of sugar, I've seen worse. The bread gets a good amount of sweetness (and flavour) from the orange juice, blueberries and dried cranberries. It is low in fat, no saturated fat, completely vegan and uses whole wheat flour. I say this is a win-win.
